HOUSTON – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University opened the 2017 soccer season Friday at nearby University of Houston, where the Cougars prevailed 3-0.

Georgi Dolence's goal in the 44th minute opened the scoring for the Cougars, who had been unsuccessful in their previous four shots against TSU goalkeeper Alexis Robles. The Lady Tigers' junior goalkeeper made five saves in 45 minutes of action.

The Lady Tigers nearly broke through in the 39th minute when Alisa Holloway's strike was turned away by Houston goalie Rachel Estopare.

Holloway played 82 minutes for the Lady Tigers. Canadian national Brooke Ianiero, a freshman in TSU's defense, played all 90 minutes for the visitors.

The Lady Tigers open a two-match homestand Sunday when they host the University of St. Thomas in another Houston derby. Kickoff between the Lady Tigers and the Celts is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Durley Stadium on the TSU campus.
