TSUSports.com: Hayward named SWAC Offensive Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Texas Southern University soccer player Paige Hayward was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Lady Tigers to wins in their final two home matches this past weekend. The award the the second such accolade for Hayward this season.

Paige Hayward scored four goals and added an assist while leading the Lady Tigers to wins over Alcorn State and Mississippi Valley State this week. The striker from Earlwood, New South Wales, Australia, enjoyed as good of a Senior Day as any player could ask for on Sunday, as netted her second hat trick of the season and became Texas Southern's career scoring leader in her last home match.

Hayward scored two goals in the first 20 minutes Sunday, and later added an assist on Lemauriel Johnson's 36th-minute goal to help TSU build a 6-0 halftime lead. The assist was her 58th career point at TSU, which surpassed former teammate Marlyn Campa to make Hayward the school's all-time leader in points.

In the second half, Hayward's powerful strike from the top of the penalty area in the 58th minute gave her 24 career goals as a Lady Tiger, tying Campa's all-time mark. She started the 2017 season as the school's career leader in assists.

In Friday's win over an improved Alcorn State team, Hayward scored in the 31st minute to snap a streak of three consecutive scoreless matches.

The Lady Tigers return to action Friday when they travel to the nation's capital for a conference match at Howard. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.
