CONFERENCE NEWS AND NOTES

• The 2014 SWAC Basketball Tournament will be held at the Toyota Center from March 11-15. The Southwestern Athletic Conference will host the 2014 Championship for the first time in Houston, Texas
• The Southwestern Athletic Conference named Ashley Beals of Mississippi Valley State as Player of the Week for the first time this year
• The SWAC has three new head coaches in the league. Semeka Randall (Alabama A&M), Dawn Brown (Prairie View A&M), and Johnetta Hayes-Perry (Texas Southern)
• Prairie View A&M fell 0-2 in the David Jones Memorial Classic last week while Mississippi Valley State dropped a 76-61 decision to Southern Miss in the USM Thanksgiving Classic. Texas Southern fell 0-2 in the San Juan Shootout over the weekend
• College Sports Madness also named Ashley Beals of Mississippi Valley State as their SWAC Player of the Week
• Top leaders in the conference in points, assists and rebounds:

• Mississippi Valley State recorded its first win on the season with a 68-58 win over Eastern Kentucky over the weekend. Ashley Beals led the Devilettes with her first career double-double 19 points and 11 rebounds. MVSU was the only school to earn a win during last weeks competition
• Tierro Frost of Alcorn State currently leads the Lady Braves in three statistical categories. She ranks first on the team in points (17.2), rebounds (6.2) and assists (5)
• The Texas Southern vs. Kansas match will air on ESPN3 on Sunday, Dec. 8th at 2:00 p.m.
• Three student-athletes within the conference posted 20 or more points in a game last week. The includes: Jazmin Parker (TXSO) tallied 49 points over a two game span, Brittney Strickland (AAMU) tacked on 22 and Jeanette Jackson (PVAM) put up 23 points
• The SWAC will face the Big 12 and SEC this upcoming week as Grambling State heads to Kansas State (3-3) and Texas Southern to Kansas (4-3). Saturday, Alabama State will tackle Mississippi State (7-1) while Mississippi Valley State heads to Ole Miss (5-4)[/font][/size]
