Just a few months ago, the Texas Southern men's basketball team limped into SWAC play with just one win after a loaded non-conference schedule.

Head coach Mike Davis still felt a step forward on the horizon.

"Even though we didn't win but one non-conference game, I felt us getting better because I wasn't focusing on the outcome of the games," Davis said. "If I can keep my guys focused on that, everything can take care of itself."

Everything is taking care of itself tenfold nearing the halfway point with the Tigers (8-11) now 7-0 and alone in first place in the SWAC.

I don't see us losing, I'm almost bored with winning lol ... even though the game today was good and close. I was watching live

That's kind of a problem in and of itself. The TSU fans become complacent with winning so much so that the fans here get quieter. TigerFans need to be louder about winning... I'll never get bored of blowing out an opponent by 20+ every game, especially with all the lobs/dunks this year to keep us entertained.

I was joking but you're right ... I was thinking more campus housing would help with that but of course the dorm isn't ready. We already had our two biggest games PV and SU. Outside of that, I don't see another good attendance until Grambling State and maybe Jackson State. I think. If I'm not mistaken UH is having the same problem, I was on one of their sites and some alumni was complaining about the lack of support considering the size of the school.

I just looked on UH website and they average around 3,000 fans which is only a couple hundred more than us despite we're way smaller. Actually SWAC foe UAPB averages more fans than UH. But our fan base isn't made up of mostly traditional students ... a lot of our students have children, work multiple part-time jobs, and live off campus which is why the new housing complex is such a big deal. It'll change the dynamic of the campus and reputation almost overnight. That's an extra almost 1000 students on campus

There is no way UH average 3000...I refuse to believe it...

I wonder if that 3500 number is inclusive of season ticket sales + students + gate or gate only?

Last time we had a game across the street, TSU fans outnumbered their fans, although they had a more coordinated student section.

This is a trend in most of college basketball though... the numbers aren't fantastic (mostly) across the board.
1994: D-1 averaged 5335 per home game (301 total teams) http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/m_basketball_RB/Reports/attend/1994.pdf
2014: D-1 averaged 4817 per home game (345 total teams) http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/m_basketball_RB/Reports/attend/2014.pdf
