Aaron Garza, a Ball High alum, pitched for the University of Houston for four seasons and is now an assistant coach with Texas Southern University.

Even though it had been four months since he was last on the mound, Aaron Garza’s instincts were still the same: strike the batter out.

“The first time I got up there, I was throwing it hard, and I was putting it where I wanted it,” Garza said. “But then again, it wasn’t beneficial to the hitters because I was 35 feet away. It wasn’t very effective.”

For years pitching in Galveston’s Central League, then Ball High and finally at the University of Houston, Garza’s job was to get hitters out. But now, in his first year as an assistant coach with the Texas Southern University baseball program, Garza’s job is to give batters good pitches to hit.
